For this one, I had to attend the game and watch the players on the field. This was my first time writing an article on an actual event, so that was a super cool experience. All of the players and the coach were super fast to respond to my questions, which makes the work so much easier!
This article was very easy to write because all of the people I interviewed were super helpful with getting information and quotes for the article. I was able to get this story up fairly quickly.
Writing this article was fun because I got to know one of my fellow senior classmates better. I was able to conduct my interview over Zoom since she is not in person and she was super eager to tell me all about her and her interests! This was my first time writing a feature story on someone, so it was fun getting to try all the different types of writing during this trimester! *This article was published in a physical magazine, so there is no digital copy.
My article on the Student Council Toy Drive was my favorite piece I wrote about that trimester. I love community service and outreach projects, so writing about this service project was super fun. It was something I was happy to be writing.
This was an article on the film club at school. The film club was a fun topic to cover because the club members were very nice to work with! The club members were very happy to talk about the club and what goes on.
This is an article about the 2020 seniors missing out on their soccer season. This was the first article I had ever written for The Highlander Online and I collaborated with Olivia Van Laanen, in Intro to Publications. This article taught me how to conduct interviews (virtually) and how to work together when writing journalistic material.
I was able to work on the yearbook with everyone in my class. This was my first time helping design a yearbook, and my first time using Walsworth. I worked with two other seniors in my class to make this spread for the senior class.
This spread is the cheer spread for the yearbook. I worked on it for a while and it was a struggle because it was my first spread I designed alone and we did not have pictures for it. Thanks to my fellow staff members giving me feedback and taking photos for me, I was able to complete it and I am proud of the work on it.
Here are two mods that I created for our yearbook. Each was super fun to make because the pictures were so cute and I loved seeing how the seniors looked when they were freshmen. These two were one of the first mods I designed. Designing these were super helpful in preparing me for a full spread design.
In Intro To Publications we were asked to make an infographic and I made this one about how students' after-school jobs were affected by COVID. This was super fun to make because I used Canva, which is super easy to use.
For the entirety of the trimester, I created college commitments for the seniors! We made these using Canva and we used Photo Scissors to cut out the logos/stickers. Then I posted them on Instagram!
I did a majority of these myself, but I did have help from a classmate named Oliva. This was a really fun opportunity for me to learn how to use Canva and play around with graphic design in my early marketing career!
